About me and this blog

I have been a bar manager in the Edinburgh area for around 10 years now, working for a variety of companies throughout that time, including mitchell's and butlers, caledonian heritable, belhaven and a hand full of independents as well. I am a member of c.a.m.r.a and have worked in wet and dry focused pubs. I guess I started writing this blog because I am really moving out of the frontline of the trade. In parallel to my career in the hospitality trade been developing a number of technology based ventures including some freelance web design and I.T. consultancy.

I have operated as a local "good with computer" guy for many of my regular customers across a few pubs in Edinburgh city centre. I am now moving my focus out from behind the bar and into technology. Largely this involves house visits, software installation, virus and malware removal and most importantly impartial advice to a broad range of customers I built up from hanging out in bars as it were.

So this blog is going to a combination of these things... however that might work, firstly as I am an avid beer and pub goer I will bring first a collection of current reviews of local bars and pubs in Edinburgh, focusing firstly in the southside area but I have quite a few haunts which I will likely get around to mentioning to. I also have a few suggestions which I have for pubs and venues... you know the "if this were my pub I'd...." kinda things. It's hard once you leave the trade to not view every pub/bar/restaurant in that kind of light. Or indeed bemoan substandard service. I'll try and keep it light...

As for the technology side of the page this will probably, although who knows when I'll get around to it include up to date reviews of products which I have been sourcing for customers. I am forever comparing a number of products from a particular range or price point. I can also give some advice on the best ways to route these products out the cheapest and safest ways.
